It’s time to meet the moment
for workers, for OPSEU, for Our Futures
My name is Ram Selvarajah, and I'm running for Region 5 Executive Board Member, with the goal of becoming your First Vice-President/Treasurer at the Spring 2026 Convention.
Meet Ram
“I've been a proud member of OPSEU/SEFPO for 26 years. I’ve held roles from chief steward to the OPS bargaining table, from local president to protecting your pension as Vice-Chair of OPTrust.
Here's what makes me different: I build winning strategies, not social media moments. I get results through coalition-building and smart negotiation, not performance politics.
If successful, I’d also bring actual financial expertise and legal knowledge – gathered through my experience and education – to ensure every dollar of your dues delivers real value, not vanity projects.”
My Vision
RESTORE WHAT WE'VE LOST
Rebuild economic security through cost-of-living adjustments in every contract—because when inflation outpaces wages year after year, we're working just as hard for less and less.
FIX WHAT'S BROKEN
Transform our operations from analog to agile—modernizing systems so locals can update membership in real-time, campaigns can pivot on data, not hunches, and we become the responsive, nimble union this moment demands.
BUILD for WHAT'S COMING
Create strategic power through coalitions that don't just react to crises but prevent them—uniting member sectors before they attack us separately, winning fights before they start.
This vision is just the starting point. Through State of Our Union virtual calls that are open to all OPSEU/SEFPO members, I'll be listening, learning and strategizing with you— the everyday worker. Every conversation will add to this vision—your struggles, your solutions, your expertise will shape what I fight for. By convention time, this won't be my vision anymore. It'll be ours. Built from hundreds of conversations with the people who actually live these problems every day.
Your Voice
RSVP to our State of Our Union Virtual Community Calls
We want to hear from the LCBO worker who is watching privatization creep closer. The hospital support worker doing the labour of three for one paycheck. The college instructor that is stringing together contracts with no job security.
“I've been fortunate to serve on boards and lead councils representing workers, and I know that unions aren't built in boardrooms; they're built from break rooms, shop floors, and the places where the everyday members actually work.
So, while my experience gives me the tools, it is your reality that must set the agenda. That's why I'm launching State of Our Union virtual member calls twice a month. These calls are open to all OPSEU/SEFPO members across all locals and regions.
To be clear, this isn't me presenting solutions—it's you sharing with me the actual problems, which will play a key role in shaping both my campaign and, if successful, my term as your first VP and treasurer of the OPSEU/SEFPO board.
Your struggles aren't just stories to me; they’re my mandate as your union executive”
Our Moment for Change
“We're in an unprecedented time, and we need to meet this moment to survive it. Across the province there is an alarming pattern of privatization of our public services, back-to-work legislation that is crushing our strikes, and claims of 'no money' while billions flow to private companies.
The question we need to ask ourselves isn’t whether we'll fight back - it's if we'll choose to meet this moment and fight smart.
So, when you vote at convention this spring, remember we’re not just choosing new leaders - we're choosing a path.
Either we continue with scattered fights and symbolic victories while individual members fall further behind, or we get disciplined about power: who has it, how to build it, and how to use it to force real wins, for all of us.
Join me. Share your truth. Let's build the union that meets this moment actually to deliver.”
